ito_asa, light on waves
Post by asa (@ito_asa_), 2026-10-24
What it is, and who made it
Four paintings of sun glitter on dark wavelets, built from stacked horizontal strokes.
Parts, layer by layer
- Palette: #ab9b7b, #877e64, #706753 (M).
- Strokes: short horizontal dabs, brighter toward the glitter path (O).
- Measures: wavelength 0.018 of width (the stroke pitch), spectral slope 2.52, edge softness 12.1 (M).
- Fluid reading: refractive index, opacity; additive light; glints, reflections, waves; refraction, layering.
The framework behind it
Sun glitter: each wavelet facet that tilts the right way reflects the sun; the glitter path is where the tilt distribution allows it. The painter draws the facets as strokes.
The same idea in distant fields
- Oceanography: the glitter pattern measures sea-surface slope (the Cox-Munk method, from memory, moderate confidence).
- Pointillism.
- Specular highlights on brushed metal.
Dual edge
None beyond credit.
