anmeriu, Water FX (hand-drawn)
Post by meriu (@anmeriu), 2026-10-24
What it is, and who made it
A 1.4 s hand-drawn effects animation: a foot strikes water and a crown splash and droplets rise and fall on a perspective grid.
Parts, layer by layer
- Line: thin dark line on white with red guide lines (O).
- Splash: crown sheet, then droplets on arcs, then ripples (O).
- Measures: spectral slope 1.14 (line drawing, M), edge softness 0.38 (hard line, M); mean speed 0.073, coherence 0.47, loop closure 0.33 (a cycle, M).
- Fluid reading: surface tension, turbulence; impact energy as the additive; spray and waves; advection.
The framework behind it
An effects animator's model of water: a few readable shapes (crown, droplets, ring) timed on a cycle, not a simulation.
The same idea in distant fields
- High-speed photography of drop impacts (Worthington, Edgerton).
- Anime effects animation.
- Ballistics: the crown splash of an impact.
Dual edge
Stylised water reads as safe and playful; for news or data on floods, use it with care.
