aimikoda, Grid Effect: Poster Grid, Style Infection, Temporal Mosaic
Post by Kōda (@aimikoda), 2026-10-25
What it is, and who made it
Three versions of a grid effect on a 15 s video: a poster grid, a 'style infection' that spreads a look cell to cell, and a temporal mosaic where cells show different moments.
Parts, layer by layer
- Grid: a regular grid of cells over the video; kanji labels and red accents (O).
- Infection: a style spreads across neighbouring cells (O, post text).
- Motion: mean speed 0.17, coherence 0.47, loop closure 0.70 (M).
- Fluid reading: diffusion; additives style and time; diffusion, transformation, layering.
The framework behind it
A cellular medium: each cell holds a state (style, time offset) and states spread to neighbours. Diffusion on a grid, with style as the dye.
The same idea in distant fields
- Cellular automata.
- Epidemics on lattices.
- Recut grids in film (Brian De Palma's split screens, from memory).
Dual edge
Contagion as a visual metaphor is loaded; avoid it near health or politics.
