Jaenam97, Prismatic Clouds (GLSL)
Post by Jae (@Jaenam97), 2026-10-24
What it is, and who made it
A 21 s shader: clouds trapped inside a rotating glass dodecahedron with a diffraction-grating surface, in a dark room under strip lights.
Parts, layer by layer
- Object: a dodecahedron with rainbow-fringed faces (O).
- Inside: soft white clouds (O).
- Motion: mean speed 0.091, coherence 0.58, loop closure 7.8 (not a loop, M).
- Fluid reading: refractive index, opacity; additive light; caustics; refraction.
The framework behind it
Two media in one object: a volume (cloud) inside a dispersive solid (grating glass). Light passes through both.
The same idea in distant fields
- Snow globes and paperweights.
- Holographic foil.
- Ice crystals making halos.
Dual edge
Iridescent objects read as luxury; keep them where the optics mean something.
